Well, Horrorleuia, dark sublime nobody's business by and by, Life gonna carry me home. Body's pilfered, touched your mind Set off sparks, blind baby's cryin'. Life gonna carry me home. [CHORUS] Life gonna carry me home, Oh, Darlin', Life gonna carry me home. No need to walk, Don't need to roam, Break all my bones. Life gonna carry me home. Little loveless locked my way, She seeks the key to yesterday Life gonna carry me home. Well, dock my pay and eat my greens, this lady is a love machine! Life gonna carry me home! Singin' till the sun fall down, Screamin', fire all around. Life gonna carry me home. Your favorite tree's a Douglas Fir, Your favorite bird's me singin' words. Life gonna carry me home. [CHORUS] Delicious Liar, love supreme, In skin and hair and shoes and jeans. Life gonna carry me home. Meet your maker, meet your match, are they the same? Well, that's the catch! Life gonna carry me home! Poetry is fightin' words, Tossin' love and throwin' verbs. Life gonna carry me home If I hear one more of those Leaves of Grass I'll kick Whitman's fuckin' ass! Life gonna carry me home! Sassafrass and pearly whites, You love to drink them sleepless nights. Life gonna carry me home. But meet me in the mornin', Dove, You'll never tire of boundless love. Life's gonna carry us home.

Semblance 05:37
This town is like a cannon shooting blood, and rocks, and ice. I bet I'd make a killing selling bags of brown basmatti rice. The treasure is a tin can spring loaded like a lock I wanna put away my ticket hung on the median line, like a spoil't Shiraz. Whoa down, doggie daddy! Meet me, your skin so gangrenous like a sound of a scream so tantalous the bass player's tryna' dismantle us again. [CHORUS] Rossie, Rossie Why so sad? Do you feel it make no sense? Jillayne, Jillayne, Jillayne, Jillayne, Jillayne, angel OK Computer, won't you play us out again? And close the book, the seaweed spouts: "Jillayne." Well, the monkey pee's not workin', you smashed a while back and the baby bottom baby's got your roster now, so simmer down. It's just my luck to find a married pal like this. Do you prefer a marriage vow aloud? Like a down and out metropolis. On the corner of Canseco Can you feel your Chakra's click? Let the mile high flavor make a fortress make desire eclipse again. [CHORUS] Well, the Roman numeral's knockin', at the Neutral Milk Hotel; Hello, John Prine! Hello Noah! A round of buzzard shells! With the winging of a take home Semblance can suck me now Disease and serendipities Oh, pull my heart-brain, love abound. And I gotta lotta calendars, so Freemasonry's a go! Long Tall Sally's ego, get your stones and rocks a box to go and grow again! [CHORUS] Not a messa blue broken Oboes An elbow bends so wrong Khalil Gibran and fireworks amidst a sandy, setting song. Catch the umpire sellin' Courtney, nigh the end. (Improvised) Gossip, lies, amends. So, you're moppin' it up when it gets too hard. Point me to the pain. Let me be extraordinary. I'm stable, my saddle's fresh, but I'm spoilt sour again! [CHORUS] x 2

Alone 05:04
Behind the water tower we'll take off all our clothes, and we'll mix and match our pieces 'til we find some hope. You have to work at 5? That's okay with me, If you'll meet me this time tomorrow behind the cemetary. [CHORUS] The days pass by, The tide crashes and burns, I look at these things the same still now like I don't want to be alone. Outside the Alamo I sat and I looked at all the children, they were running around so fast with their mom's in tow. To me, you are a child without a finger. And, if you're pointing my direction, I think I didn't know. [CHORUS] I don't want to sound facetious in this nursery rhyme, don't want to go and find a cave and do it by my side. There are a lot of things you can say about the solitary life, and not a single one of them will cut you like a knife. [CHORUS]

Riddle me this, you're wrapped in such surprise, you're a shoe-in for the grandest prize, you speak for god itself. But, would you sleep with me? It doesn't mean a thing. So, catch a load of this, one train leaves Santa Fe, midnight on the first of May, the other one from Spain. Would you be on it? Would I be on it, waterlogged, and white? I don't care about your secrets anymore. As a matter of fact, they are mine. I am the rail connector. Would you follow me to the line? Wouldn't you know, I don't pine for your touch or even miss you all that much, I don't miss anything, and it is so ridiculous. A ridiculous thing to be. Hear me out, You're only 22. You are my soulmate too but I don't care. You can come and go as you please. But, If you please to come, I'll roll out the band for you. And I'll paint you paper flowers though it's probably a waste of time. I am the rail connector. Would you follow me to the line? As soon as it stops, The mailbox comes unlocked, the letters fly like props, but I'm not in this show. I'm in the next one. The next one after that. I'll tell you what, I'd die for you I'm sure. Seems like a lot for me to endure, but don't go get your little heart worried, I would just as soon not. It depends on how it happens, really. I'm on the back porch thinking about the way you move but then I go back inside. I am the rail connector. Would you follow me to the line? Your embrace is the grace of god but I can wait, that's fine. I am the rail connector. Would you follow me to the line?

Asian Jade 03:57
I took a nap with Dylan on my mind. He bypassed all the obstacles, rode a cloud on a cloudy night. He nibbled on my ear, and he got on his knees and prayed, and when I woke up next to you, he told me what to say, said: [CHORUS] "I'm so tired to be with you, Asian Jade. I'm so, so tired to be with you, Asian Jade. You know I tried to be with you, but when the sunshine beg for rain, I'm thinking I'm so tired to be with you, so tired to be with you, Asian Jade." Hey, hey mama said the way you move, makes me want to shout out with a sweaty attitude. It makes me want to cry, and then it makes me want to come, and then it makes me want to fall asleep, and I know I'm not the only one. [CHORUS] I love the way you part your big brass hair, and we partner dance 'round the campfire, I'm the ghost of Fred Astaire. But, when the same feet pounding patterns are the feet that pound the grapes that make the wine that's flowing through my veins, I lovingly escape. [CHORUS] So let the curtain fall, or let your bra come off, so we can daydream, naked, to the sounds of Rachmaninoff. But, don't go tellin' your preist, and please don't tell your papa too. They'll be so upset with me when they find out that I'm leaving you. [CHORUS] x 2

Fuck All Day 07:09
You find a homestead, you find whatever. You might as well be getting tarred and feathered. You find a homestead, you find whatever. You find a partner, you find whatever. You might as well be getting tarred and feathered. You find a partner, you find whatever. You make a child, you teach it German, you forget the baby, you keep on learnin'. You take it's knowledge, you go to college, and when you learn the college, you'll own the college. I don't wanna fuck all day, I don't wanna get a job. I just wanna sit behind a lemonade stand and smoke a corncob pipe. I don't wanna fuck all day, I don't wanna go to work. I just wanna sit behind a lemonade stand where the patrons are all jerks, So I feel better about the way I treat my friends and family.
7.
All your friends are faceless now? Well my girlfriend seems to run and hide. And every time I see her body, I just want to give away mine. It's soft, it's strong, no ordinary man could leave it all behind. But, I'm on the road, the organ grinds, I guess that means I'm on the line. [CHORUS] The days go by. They're the wrong set of days. The sun don't shine like it did on my face. My band just died but they willed me a case of unmistaken ire. All my truths are baseless now, they seem to bend and flow by the hour. I do my work with unsure grace, like the Lone Ranger, but like a coward. Just the other day I broke my foot just trying to stand pat. And a baby laughed, the momma laughed too. How am I supposed to forget about that? [CHORUS] All the poems are tasteless now, they're all about the way we shed our skin. And every time I let the dogs run free, I gotta let them back in. You wanna see a fledgling man? You wanna see the dominoes crash down? Well, the fog horn moans, the whistle yells, the thunder claps, and the steel drum sounds, it says: [CHORUS] The soapbox derby starts at 2, you might wanna start walking towards the park. 123 skiddoo, I'm frying up the bacon after dark. It's moist, it's poignant, it's unlike any foreign food that I have ever know. But it's on the floor, I want some more, she's at the door, I start to moan. [CHORUS] You've got the pictures that you took of me, you rolled them up inside your welcome mat! I been in here looking for my birth certificate for hours and hours, but I guess I can just forget about that. The darkness calls me over to the other side of the room. But I'm sitting down, not getting up, and I want that chiseled on my tomb! [CHORUS] Sure, I trust you plenty, but I don't want to have to trust you with my life. I want to ask your wife to promenade with me, but I can't ever seem to find your wife. And now my life is in your hands, you know my secret pleasure for your Jane. But I'm on the road, the organ is too, it's like I've got a second brain! [CHORUS]
8.
When I get home, she gonna tan my country hide, for kissin' little Julie on her better side. I did not mean to bark, but I did not mean to bite. Looks like the queen of queens is out tonight. [CHORUS] Why momma gotta be so mean? Why momma gotta be so mean? A sift full of rice, and a brattle of beans, Why momma gotta be so mean? She can read my face, so I gotta watch my mind. Before it's slippin' downtown to tease and crown a different kind. I do not want to leave, but I do not want to lie. Makes a noble man want to bend his brain and cry. [CHORUS] I can hardly take it when she's straddling my eyes. But it's even worse to visualize some other guys peeking on those legs, and ogling them thighs, on my hippy flippy dippy yappy scrappy doo surprise. [CHORUS] Now I'm back to square one, circling my pride. In a notebook full of photo scraps of her and I grooving front-to-front, in that mystical outside. Makes and inmate want to drop his shank and jive! [CHORUS]
9.
Sally came over to my house, she's the Devil. She wears the Devil's clothes on Christmas Eve. Then she serves me tea and bagels from the table. Well, the Devil flew in from Georgia, and ain't she sweet? She's a real fine southren belle with southren flavor, can you believe that I'd do anything but get a bite to eat? [CHORUS] I've been waiting all my life for you to take my coat. Wherefore art thou, Ro-me-old-me? Heal me, darlin', don't. Darlin', don't. Walkin' down by train tracks in the summer, the Goddess of the Earth she did appear. When I told her my whole life'd been pulled asunder she just smiled at me and she sipped again her beer. She's a real fine southren belle with southren flavor, can you believe that I'd do anything but try to pull her nearer? [CHORUS] In the gutter, in the back of a train car, in the alley, I dreamed that my dear mother was a saint. When I asked her if that meant my blood was holy, she said "Boy, you think you're pious, but ya ain't." She's a real fine southren belle with southren flavor, and I hope she doesn't mind that I'll be gettin' in quite late. [CHORUS] Well, I wake up and I think that day has broken, but I find the only thing broken is my mind and my heart is it's ridiculous companion that stumbles, kicks, and slowly tags behind. And the line is fine, but it divides a secret, could you believe that I'd do anything but try to toe that line? [CHORUS] x 2
10.
Your mother told me to watch out for you, she said you'd only bring me down. I was begging licks and sleeping in my guitar case, and you came around. You handed me a tire iron, I brushed my hair out of my face. I still don't know why you came. I don't know why you came. [CHORUS] I've never been awake for so long, I'm wasting time. If you're sitting here and waiting for a love song, you can weep and cry. But I'd never pen a verse about a woman so benign. So, shoot the cow and brand the duck, I couldn't find my head. I had a hat to keep my nickels in, but was swooping like the weeping dead. Your cold, cold fingers moaned, they were the antidote that broke the skin. I still don't know what this is, I don't know what this is. [CHORUS] Then a miraculous thing happened to me, god ate me in my sleep. I arched my back and I racked my bones, but I woke up at your feet. We make a lot of children cry, you know you don't seem to really mind. I still don't know where I am, and I haven't got the time. [CHORUS] Curse the artist that made all this! Curse him and his sinful hands! In a little room I dream that I am in my mother's arms again. Or sleeping in my guitar bag, or remembering how to pray. It's not you, it's me. I just wish I knew when there was something more to save. [CHORUS]
11.
I got the oil from Mississippi, I'm bringing it back to Denmark town. A lot of pretty people seem to crash and burn when I'm around. A dreary winter, the blood on my hands a millimeter thick. Stories about trust and bread, and well they need a little kick. I've been to Holland, and I've been to France, and I've been to temptation, whoa, what a kick in the pants. [CHORUS] Life is a drinking game, better start filling it up. A blind invitation, the odds are a million to one. Freedom from freedom, freedom to do what you think that it is that you want; Free of a lot of things, chained in the heart. The morningstar blues got me cursing around my mind. The finger of death, the smell of a touch of pine. I drive my car to the big bad deal, but it's just a bit too late. If you make me the king of the obvious things, well I think that I can wait. I've been to Sweeden, and I've been to Rome, and I've been to enlightenment, and then I came back home. [CHORUS] Luck be a loser, luck be a pile of scraps! And life be a lot of things, better go grab a new map! Tripping the wire attached to the great undead, and that delicious liar's doing a provocative dance on your head again. I've been to Norway, I've been to the isle of Crete. I've been a lot of places, even once I was whole and complete. [CHORUS]
12.
[CHORUS] You are the apple in my eye, you are the cream that takes the cake. One time I fell and broke my hip, one time I made a big mistake. But, when the musty curtain falls, and danger's underneath the room, would you still kiss me at my funeral? As I lay me down to sleep, I pray the lord my soul to keep. It's only natural, I suppose, these days to give it all away. But, child, If I die before my wake, I beg the lord for birthday cake, and I'll stuff my face and leave a little bit in a napkin for the kids. One time, a man of about 42 knocked on my door in churlish June. I guess I asked him to come in, but then again it's not for sure. He begged me for a little thumb of pancake and some spearmint gum. Why would I even bother feeding him if he didn't come? [CHORUS] There are several kinds of people. Some are flight, some don't care, and there's a little bit of everybody loitering by the stairs. And, in the middle of a switch between the poor and middle class, there isn't everybody singing like a robin. I wouldn't want for you a roller coaster that howls and whines and moans, like a train on tracks that dominate and break it's little bones. Behind the screaming about taxes and the silence about death, you've got to tie your shoes and reprimand the whistle. [CHORUS] In the back behind a seedy bar the dumpster's crying out. He says, "The only way to live these days is garbage in your mouth." Well, listen up my twinkling friends, you might seem t understand him but I want you all to look at where he comes from. In a broken chair with a melting mug, she stares beyond the pond. I think she's going to let her pants out by the springtime. But the changing themes in Jesus dreams, tapped in motorcycle indigo, are the only thing releasing from the ether. [CHORUS] A collection of important books from 1644, in the basement by the window, have the secrets that you're looking for. But let me offer you alternatives, and alternative alternatives, and then maybe we could go outside and kick around a ball. Thinking about the time that I saw his mother die, and the way that we shared that for a lifetime, I figure now and once again that it is written on my head, and that no man alive will ever take that from me. [CHORUS] I know you think it's foolish, how I fill this broken cup. The way you writhe and carry on, I know you've really had enough. But when the dripping finally ceases, and the substance all releases, I doubt that you would really be that satisfied. So, tickle me once, tickle me twice, and send me off to war. I see you in my bedroom, scouring my floor. But you're not going to find me there, you'll just find a little hair, and a gorgeous rug with really dirty fabrics. [CHORUS]

about

Semblance

I don't know if these songs will
help anybody.
I doubt it, actually
(and I wrote the songs so I should know.)
However, I am on the road
to being more useful.
I also happen to be a musical artist.
This album
like any before it,
is an invitation
to take that journey
with me.
